MONTBLANC
You may think that writing instruments and luxury items have nothing in common, but Montblanc soon broke that barrier. The company began as Simplo Filler Pen in Germany in 1908 under August Eberstein, Alfred Nehemias and Claus-Johannes Voss. The company obtained the Montblanc name from one of its high-quality feathers which was introduced in 1910. Montblanc is known for its white star symbol that first appeared in its products in 1913. Montblanc created its innovative pen in 1924, called Meisterst.ck, which means masterpiece in English, and is made to this day. The company changed its title to Montblanc-Simplo GmbH in 1934 and debuted its line of piston boom filling products. The company expanded its product base to include notebooks, pen bags and writing cases. Montblanc's manufacturing centers were destroyed during World War II, but operations continued in Denmark while reconstruction efforts were underway. The company manufactured other items, but Montblanc pens continued in popularity. Montblanc was later purchased by Richemont Group, which offers Montblanc items and luxury goods. Revived interest in fountain pens in the 1980s allowed the company to enter Asia. Montblanc created several boutiques in the 1990s and expanded to high-end product lines that included jewelry, watches and cases. Montblanc created a fragrance for women in 2001, titled Presence, and Starwalker for Men was introduced in 2005. The Starwalker fragrance debuted along with the Starwalker Pen and Timewalker watch collection. Montblanc fragrances are produced in partnership with Inter Parfums Inc.
